Eukaryota. Animalia. Chordata. Mammalia. Primates. Hominidae. Homo Sapiens.

Listen, Dear One.

Can you hear you hair, as it grows? Pinpricks where it sprouts, thread dragging through coarse cloth.

Inhabit the soft animal body you've borrowed; the Earth strong beneath you, generous, steadfast.

Take a breath with me.

You and I, we are Creatures, her children.

And I would like to sit with you awhile, if you'll have me.

My name is Finn Frankowski. Since I was eight years old, I've been on a mission to be the very best artist I can be. I am many things- a lover, a friend, a powerlifter, bodybuilder, and a fulltime university student (Bachelors of Kinesiology, here we come!)- but before it all, I am an Artist. I am an avid explorer of strange worlds, both physical and psychic (philosophy, religion, math, music, dance, the inner lives of my loved ones...) In every place, I befriend the Creatures of the earth and water and sky (they always have lots of stories to tell). I love to play piano, sing, and dance all night long...

Through my visual art, I seek to bring the subconscious and otherworldly into tangible existence, and connect people to their animal nature. Inspired by surrealism and expressionism, my pieces are woven from dream states and trances, magic and inexpressible sensation. (More details on my message and process can be found below.) I hope to create a more beautiful and immersive world: One where the churning drone of industrial human civilization is not the loudest voice we hear. One where the Earth and our fellow Creatures are respected for their sentience and wisdom. â€‹

On my Instagram you can find art progress pictures and life updates!

My Message

In a general sense, my art is about what it means to be the human animal. It’s about interaction with nature, the subconscious and magic, and the bending and blending of the senses. I’m deeply inspired by surrealism, expressionism, and the work of Claude Monet and Shaun Tan. I want my work to bring people closer to their animal nature and the depths of their minds.

My pieces hold emotional and physical sensations that cannot be expressed in words (I find language incredibly limiting). They preserve these sensations in living form so that the viewer, when they allow themselves to be drawn in, may experience them firsthand. My most frequent subject is the human face. I find it endlessly beautiful and intriguing, as well as an effective method of allowing the viewer to personally resonate with the work.

My Process

I use several styles in my work, which can be broadly categorized into realism, semi-realism, fine-line, and my own spin on abstract/expressionist art. In all these styles, I frequently employ vibrant colours, dynamic lifelike forms, and intricate details. Acrylic paint and pencil are my preferred mediums, although I am happy to work in pretty much any medium, including 3D mediums like clay and paper mache. I often mix media.

I usually plan my pieces with a general sketch, then leave the rest up to instinct. My process involves long hours of unbroken flow states, like a trance or dream. I use ritual, music, and introspection to make my subconscious more accessible, and let my hands move freely to translate what I feel. All my work is a self portrait, to some extent.
